Faculty Position (Open Rank)
The Department of Chemistry invites applications for full-time tenure-track positions at the Assistant, Associate, and Full Professor levels in all major areas of chemistry including analytical, chemical biology, inorganic, materials, organic, physical, and theoretical. Candidates will be expected to establish a high-quality, externally funded research program and have a commitment to outstanding graduate and undergraduate teaching. Salary is negotiable. Ph.D. required.

Coordinator of Research Programs - Extended Search
The Department of Chemistry at the University of Illinois is seeking a Coordinator of Research Programs. The incumbent will work directly with a research faculty member (Principal Investigator) to coordinate all research and development activities in his Laboratory. The Coordinator will be responsible for administering and monitoring the research budget, organizing grant proposal preparation and submission, assisting in editorial responsibilities and handling all research correspondence. The position requires initiative, judgment, problem-solving skills, a high level of organization and the ability to manage many tasks simultaneously.
(1) The Coordinator’s research management activities include assisting the Principal Investigator in grant proposal preparation and in obtaining external funds for research projects. Other research activities include managing the laboratories research resources and assisting in overseeing the research group’s activities.
(2) The Coordinator’s administrative responsibilities include advising the Principal Investigator on the staffing of research projects, assisting the Principal Investigator in developing the research budget managing the research and development expenditures; reporting to the Principal Investigator on current research projects. Additional administrative activities include assisting in proposal writing to obtain outside funds for research support, monitoring the progress of research projects, managing research resources, and assisting in overseeing research group activities. The Coordinator handles organizational tasks relative to the research program and acts as a resource person for the Laboratory.
(3) The Coordinator’s communications responsibilities include managing the research correspondence, preparing and editing scientific manuscripts, reports and publications, assisting in editorial functions for scholarly series and volumes, serving as liaison for international/researchers in the Laboratory, arranging and organizing scientific symposia.
Skills: Personal: High level of initiative and judgment, excellent communication, problem solving and time management skills required. Eye for detail and ability to work with minimum supervision.
Technical: Knowledge of database concepts and budget analysis. Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet operation and presentation software.
This is a 12 month, full-time academic professional position. Salary is negotiable and will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. A bachelor’s degree is required. Experience in administration and editorial work, familiarity with word processing, spreadsheet and database management is essential.
