2008
August 22 - August 23, 2008:The Second Annual Retreat for Graduate Women in Chemistry: We had a wonderful retreat this year, full of information for first years and old hands alike. Come see what we did!
(Co-sponsored by the WCC and WIC) - See information from last year's Graduate Women's retreat.
July 19, 2008"Bonding with Chemistry: A Day for Girls": This year, the WCC put on a day camp for middle school girls from all around the UIUC area. We couldn't have been more excited to get out in the community and share some pretty cool chemistry.
May 1, 2008:Gimme a Break: Our annual "get away from it all" took place this day. This event was an opportunity to take a break from the stresses of classes, finals, research... whatever! and come be social with your peers.
April 19, 2008:Undergraduate Research Symposium: This year's URS was held on Saturday, April 19 from 12:30 pm - 4:30 pm.
March 25, 2008:

"Creating Wealth Strategically - Getting Started Right": We invited back to UIUC CPA Bryan Bloom to discuss some of the finer points of finances. This event included light refreshments and took place from 2-3 pm in NL 217.

February 26, 2008

Sylvia Stoesser Lecture: Dr. Sarah E. Kelly, Vice President of Research Technology-Pharmaceutical Sciences at Pfizer. In addition to the lecture, there were two WCC-sponsored events:

  • Breakfast with the speaker (all women in the department of Chemistry are invited) - 171 RAL
  • Coffee Break with the speaker preceding the lecture (all students and post docs are invited to attend) - Room TBA
January 25, 2008:
"Crucial Conversations" Workshop : This workshop was centered around facilitating "high stakes" conversations.
2007
December 16:Chemistry Graduate Student Ice Skating. Held from 7:30pm-9:00pm at the UIUC Ice Arena, 409 East Armory, this event featured free admission and snacks, and only $1 skate rental! *Hosted by the WCC with support of the UIUC chemistry department
Oct 7:Apple picking at Curtis Orchard.
August 20-21:Retreat for Graduate Women in Chemistry (sponsored by the WCC and WIC).
July 30:WCC-sponsored seminar, “Dress for Success.”
May 3: Gimme a break! Food and caffeine break for all chemistry grad students, faculty, and staff.
April 21:Spring Undergraduate Research Symposium, sponsored by the WCC
March 7: Sylvia Stoesser Lecture: Madeleine Jacobs, American Chemical Society. Dr. Jacobs spoke on “Globalization and the Changing Face of the Scientific Enterprise: Is the World Really Flat?”
2006
December 10: Chemistry Graduate Student Social Event: Ice Skating! This was held at the UIUC Ice Arena, 406 E. Armory
November 17: Women in Chemistry Graduate Workshop, “Refining Your Career Goals”
September 30: Chemistry Undergraduate Research Symposium sponsored by the WCC
August 15: Orientation dinner and panel discussion-- “How to Pick a Research Group,”
July 26: Financial workshop-- “Blueprint for Financial Success,” by Mr. Bryan Bloom
May 11: Gimme a Break-- food and caffeine hour for all graduate students, faculty and staff.
March 7: Sylvia M. Stoesser Lecture, Dr. Marquita M. Qualls, GlaxoSmithKline
February 3: Alto Vineyards wine tasting
